Ben and the Piano

Image
My Ben has been playing piano for a little over a year and I think he's doing a great job! Way to go Ben, I'm proud of you!

Violins and Baby Cupcakes

Image
I just want to say that I am so proud of my oldest son. Not only did Jeremiah perform in his recital while feeling VERY tired (after having been camping all weekend), he also did a very good job! I am so happy to see him excelling at something he loves! This week I got the craft bug again and I decided to make a baby gift from an idea I saw on etsy (a website that features handcrafted items for sale). These are supposed to look like cupcakes! I had a lot of fun doing them! They are made up of onesies and burp cloth diapers that I embellished, and washcloths.

Oscar's Blankie

Image
I can't believe I made our dog a blanket! But I wanted him to be able to lie on the couch or our bed without getting them all hairy or scratching them. So I rounded up some scraps and wah-lah! (I have know idea how to spell that word, but I really like it!)

Magnetic Calendar

Image
I have been looking for an affordable tabletop calendar that the children can use for school, but alas, the perfect thing was no where to be found. Or else I didn't want to spend that much money. So the inspiration came to make my own calendar out of a $4. cookie sheet and magnetic paper! Cost less than $10 and now I can move it and store it and the kids can play with it too! How fun! The extra pieces can be stored in the back...

Second Try- Freezer Paper Stencil

Image
The Little Princess needed a special shirt too! This was fun...I used metallic silver acrylic paint (mixed with Textile Medium) and it turned out great!

Team Nolt

So I borrowed this idea of using freezer paper stencils and finally made my boys the shirts they have been begging for! Here is the finished product....not bad for the first try, I guess...

Cousin time and Cupcakes

Image
I love that my children get to be around their cousins...at least the Miller ones. They love each other and play together really well... My Little Helper is always at my right hand whenever I am in the kitchen. I'd like to think it's because she just loves to be with me, but I think it might have something to do with FOOD!

First Tomato from the Garden!

Image
Joanna is modeling our first itty bitty tomato! Love it! Love how she says "Tomato!"

Garden Update

Image
Just this afternoon I thought it was time to update the garden's growth, so I went out to take pictures. While outside, I was drawn to the beautiful and interesting things growing in our yard. I love the roses and how they are growing so fast ever since I majorly pruned them. This is one of those "interesting" things that is growing in our yard. And yes, I am admitting that we are white trash. We need to throw that bike away, but least it is growing BEHIND the shed! Have you ever seem a Lawn mower growing in a bed of beautiful vines? Well, you have now! At least this one belongs to our landlord! I'm amazed at the growing things in our garden! It's amazing how fast they have sprouted! I believe these are my beans... Already got some Tomatoes comin! Is there anything more beautiful than this? By the way, I never realized how wonderful a tomato plant can smell! I can't wait till there are watermelon on this vine! Somewhat pathetic looking cornstalks...

Green Things

Image
Isn't there something therapeutic about green growing things? I love seeing the tender little plants pop out of the ground. I think it is also wonderful education for our city kids! This is our first garden and they are all into it. Enjoy some of our pictures: Sunflower Tomato I think this is watermelon (or is it cucumber?) Radishes Strawberries

Imagination Station

Image
I love that my children have good imaginations... Especially my eldest child. He is always coming up with the most interesting things. Here is a fort he designed out of plywood and pavers and sheets and towels! Love it Our most recent project is the GARDEN! Here is Brendan tilling it...we then added compost and cow poopoo and then topsoil. Our soil is incredibly sandy here, so the topsoil is working out great. We already have little green things sprouting out! This is our first attempt at a garden, so we are pretty excited! I think it is very good for the kids to see things grow! More pictures to come!

Death and Life

Image
My Grandma Gingerich passed away on March 7th and the next two weeks were a flurry of activity as we arranged for a funeral here and in IN. We drove up there and had a reunion of sorts with the family, and then we took our time traveling home; stopping at Brendan's brothers' houses (Ft Wayne and SC) on the way home. We also stopped in Chattanooga to visit the Tennessee Aquarium. So, we had a good time as a result of a sad event! I am going to miss my Grandma very much! She was an amazing lady!
